Three NDFB militants killed in Assam

GUWAHATI: Three National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants were killed in two separate encounters in Assam today, police sources said.

A NDFB militant was killed at Podumpkhuri inJalukbari area of Guwahati city today in an encounter with the police.

The police recovered a .32 pistol from the slain militant and suspect that he had entered the city to carry out subversive activities here, the sources said.

Two other NDFB (anti-talk Ranjan Daimary faction) insurgents were killed in an encounter with a joint police and army team in lower Assam's Chirang district today, they said.

On a tip off the joint security team gave a hot chase to a three-member NDFB group at Moujabari village, under Basugaon police station, and an encounter ensued in which two of the militants were killed while the other fled.

The two militants have been identified as Sanjoy Mushahary and Swankar Basumatary and a loaded .9-mm pistol with a grenade were recovered from them.

Meanwhile, the ruling Bodo People's Front (BPF) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), led by its chief Hagrama Mohilary held a rally in Kokrajhar protesting against the spurt of violent activities allegedly by NDFB's anti-talk faction

Mohilary also demanded a CBI inquiry into the ongoing violence in the districts under the BTC.
