Two more persons were arrested in connection with the attack on a college lecturer, whose right hand was chopped off allegedly by activists of radical outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) for preparing a question paper with alleged derogatory references to Prophet Mohammed.

Those arrested by the special investigation team probing the case were KM Shobin, 24, and Shanavaz, 28. They were arrested from Coimbatore railway station last night, police said.

So far 22 persons have been arrested in the case.

The duo were brought to Muvattupuzha here this morning for questioning, they said.

The lecturer TJ Joseph was attacked on July 4 while he was returning home with family from a Church. His severed hand was sutured and is now recovering at his residence at Muvattupuzha.

He was sacked by the New Man college authorities last week on the ground that he had hurt the sentiments of Muslims.

Maintaining that Joseph had not made any derogatory reference to Prophet Mohammed, his family has said he would challenge the management decision in a court.
