Two militants killed in Manipur encounter

Two militants of People's United Liberation Front (PULF) were killed in an encounter with police commandos in interior Thoubal district of Manipur today, official sources said.

The encounter took place when the commandos, attached to Thoubal police station, rushed to Leisangthem area following reports that some militants were roaming with arms.

As the commandos stepped up operation, they were fired upon, reports from the district said. In the ensuing encounter two militants were killed on the spot while some others escaped. One AK 47 rifle and some other small arms were recovered from the spot. One of the militants was identified as self styled 'commander' of the outfit.

The bodies have been sent to Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital here for post mortem.
