A Delhi court has sentenced two men to life imprisonment for killing a person who was accused of murdering their friend and had obtained bail in the case.

"The facts in the present case are no less than that of story of a Bollywood pot-boiler. Both the convicts are young boys and in order to avenge the death of their friend they took law into their hands when the deceased Nandu, an accused in the said case, secured bail," additional sessions judge Kamini Lau said.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs25,000 each on Narender Kumar and Mohd Guddu after holding them guilty of murder. It also directed that the fine amount be paid to the victim's family as compensation.

During the arguments on sentence, public prosecutor Taufiq Ahmed sought strict punishment for both the convicts on the ground that they killed Nand Kishore alias Nandu in cold blood on April four 2007 to take revenge for the murder of their friend Deepak.

The defence counsel, on the other hand, sought lenient view stating that both the convicts were in their 20s and had a family to look after.

According to the prosecution, accused Kumar, Guddu and Arif along with two juveniles killed Nandu after stabbing him with a broken glass tumbler. Nandu was accused of killing their friend Deepak in 2006 and managed to secure bail in the case.

The prosecution could prove its case against Kumar and Guddu but Arif was acquitted by the court due to want of sufficient evidence.
