Two former Satyam directors summoned by local court in Hyderabad

A local court today issued fresh summons on Ram Mynampati and Krishna G Palepu, former directors of Satyam Computers in a case filed by Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), the investigation arm of the Union corporate affairs ministry.

Among the 11 former directors, against whom seven complaints were filed by SFIO for alleged violations under different sections of the Companies Act of 1956, and summons issued consecutively, former cabinet secretary TR Prasad, ex-director of IIT V S Raju and former Dean of ISB M Rammohan Rao, appeared before Special Court for Economic Offences here.

Apart from naming them as accused, Satyam's founder B Ramalinga Raju, its former managing director Rama Raju, ex-CFO Vadlamani Srinivas, Vinod K Dham, Mangalam Srinivasan and Satyam's then company secretary G Jayaraman, were also named in the complaints, after which the court summoned all of them to appear in court.

Though, Rama Raju, also appeared before the court but Ramalinga Raju who is undergoing treatment for hepatic ailment and Vadlamani Srinivas did not appear on health grounds.

The trio are presently under judicial remand in the multi-crore accounting Satyam fraud case.

As the summons issued earlier were not served on Ram Mynampati, the then Satyam's fulltime director and Krishna G Palepu, fresh summons were issued by the court today, Company Prosecutor C Raghu told PTI, adding the court posted the case to January 25 for examination of all accused.

Meanwhile, counsels of Mangalam Srinivasan and Vinod K Dham filed petitions for special vakalat (memo of appearance).

The SFIO filed complaint against the accused on various charges including fudging of balance sheets, deceiving shareholders, taking huge benefits and dividends as directors, and showing as paid unpaid dividends.
