LUCKNOW: Two moneylenders in Varanasi have been booked for forcing a youth to sell his kidney to recover a loan from him, a police officer said on Saturday.

"Rajesh Goswami, a resident of Manduadeeh locality in Varanasi, said two moneylenders forcibly took him to Chennai and got one of his kidneys removed this month," district police chief Vijay Prakash said.

The police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code
against the two moneylenders. The two men are on the run, Prakash said.

According to the police, a few years ago, Goswami, who was unemployed, had taken loans adding up to nearly Rs12,000 from the moneylenders on condition that he would pay them back within six months.

"However, as Goswami could not clear the debt, the moneylenders started threatening him and his family," inspector AK Singh said.

In order to recover their loan and the interest amount, the duo last month forcibly took Goswami to Chennai and got one his kidneys removed, he added.
Goswami lodged a police complaint on Friday.
