Tripura would get a separate High court soon, Union law minister M Veerappa Moily today said.

Inaugurating a new High court building here, Moily said he had received communication from the Chief Justice of Guwahati High court that the newly constructed bulding was huge and capable of housing a full fledged high court and it would come up soon.

"Tripura is getting a separate high court soon. Now we are only waiting for the formalities", he added.

At present Tripura has Agartala bench of Guwahati High court.

The High Court Bar Association of Tripura, state government and all the political parties had long been demanding for separate high court in the state.

Later, Moily told reporters that a high court was sanctioned for only Tripura in the north-east because the building was ready.

Modern technology including IT should be introduced in the courts for judicial activism.

Among others chief minister Manik Sarkar and Chief Justice of Guwahati High court, M V Lokur spoke in the function.
