Tripura bags best fish production award

Tripura has received the best award from the Centre for fish production in the country, Tripura minister for fisheries, Khagendra Jamatiya said today.
   
Director of fisheries, Shanti Reang has received the trophy for best fish cultivation in a function organised on December 29 in Mumbai, Jamatiya told reporters.
  
He said, 1,37,000 fish cultivators in the state have produced 36,991 metric tons of fish in 25,000 hectares of water bodies last year and in this financial year it would rise to 4,054 metric tons.
   
Jamatiya said 95% people in the state eat fish and added that by 2012 the state would produce 45,330 metric tons of fish and the per capita consumption would rise from 11 kg to 13 kg per year.
