Janshatabdi Express which was without a driver started rolling on the track, 35 minutes before its actual journey to Jabalpur from Habibganj station last evening.

No sooner, the train driver saw the train moving, the driver jumped in the guard's compartment and applied the mechanical brakes and brought it to a halt, railway officials said today adding four wheels of the engine jumped off the track during the process.

"The Janshatabi Express on platform 5, started moving and when the train's driver saw this, he climbed on the guard's compartment and applied the mechanical brakes," Bhopal Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) M P Singh told PTI. "The train started rolling on the track around 5.05 pm, 35 minutes before it was scheduled to start its journey to Jabalpur," he said.

Asked whether the driver's action had averted a big tragedy given that some passengers were on the train waiting to commence their journey, Singh said the trap points to stop the trains are also put in place when the stationary trains in the platforms are waiting to chuff off. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident and it will be completed in two-to-three days, Singh said.
