Despite rising prices and falling profit margins, Erode traders receive a huge order of garments for the holy month of Ramzan.
Erode textile traders have received an order for goods worth more than Rs50 crore for Ramzan, which ends on September 10.
“For Ramzan, white lungis, printed lungis, half-saris and other exquisite varieties are in demand," said A Muthusamy, a leading textile trader.. "Because of the price rise this year, the order has decreased slightly, but reducing the profit margin, we have obtained orders.”
Compared to last year, the price of these textile items has increased by up to 50%, Muthusamy said.
For example, a white lungi was sold last year at Rs50 apiece, but now it is being sold at Rs75. But the profit margin has also come down by 50% because the manufacturers are facing competition, he said.
