The heavy cloud cover, which prevented viewing of solar eclipse in Surat on Wednesday morning, left tourists in Surat highly disappointed.
Hundreds of amateur astronomers and sky-gazers from different countries were in Surat for the rare treat. More than 100 foreigners had converged in the city for the event, but bad weather left them highly disappointed.
Ena Canilo, a tourist from Canada, said, "I had come to Surat especially for this event, and it is disappointing that cloudy weather marred the eclipse. I don't know whether we will get another chance to view such a rare celestial occurrence."
French astronomer, Feny Gaubit, said she had hoped for an experience worth remembering, but was disappointed after Wednesday's cloud-enveloped eclipse.
Dhananjay Raval, secretary of Gujarat Amateur Astronomers Club, said "Watching the solar eclipse in totality would have been great, but unfortunately, we had to miss out on such a rare event, which was disappointing. However, for astronomers like us, it was still a wonderful experience."
The Club had made arrangements at Aatmiya Vidya Mandir, Kamrej to view the solar eclipse. However, overcast conditions played spoilsport.
The atmosphere at Surat airport was electrifying with more than 25000 citizens in attendance to view the cosmic event. Hundreds of them had arrived at the airport from as early as 4.00 am, while the eclipse was slated to take place only around 6.20 am. While most people shared the feeling of disappointment, for many others it was still a great experience.
