Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a top Pakistani militant Riyaz alias Abu Talib alias Talah who is suspected to be the accomplice of the two fidayeens who killed five CRPF jawans at J&K Police Public School ground on Wednesday.

Riyaz was arrested when police and paramilitary forces cordoned off Chattabal area of Srinagar on Thursday evening. A residential house was pinpointed and he was overpowered by the forces and taken into custody.

Unconfirmed sources said Abu Talib is a Pakistani national. Police sources said the operation was lunched after receiving specific Intelligence inputs about his presence in the Chattabal area.

The security agencies were trailing Riyaz using mobile tracking device and on Thursday evening they got the confirmation that he was hiding in this locality.

“He had pistol with him. He was overpowered by the crack team of the forces and whisked away to undisclosed destination where he is being currently interrogated,” said a police official.

The arrest comes just hours after Jammu and Kashmir police said they have made some progress in the investigations into the case
