Janmashtami this year is all set to bring a bonanza for car dealers not only in Ahmedabad but across Gujarat, with people choosing to make their big buy on or around this auspicious occasion. Sales are likely to be higher by 30% in Ahmedabad this year.
“The total business in Ahmedabad is expected to increase by 30% this year,” said Dixit Shah, secretary of the Ahmedabad Automobiles Dealers Association.
Predictably, vehicle dealers in the city are all geared up for massive sales on and around the big day. Some dealers said they had sold almost 50% more vehicles this year than last year.
“We will deliver 80 Hyundai and 40 Nissan vehicles, which is 50% more than last year,” said Sukhbir Bagga, director of Group Planet Petal. The Landmark group is also expecting a 40% rise in sales on Janmashtami.
“As compared to last year, the sales and deliveries are to increase by almost 40%,” said Paras Somani, executive director of Landmark Cars. “We will deliver around 70 Honda cars on Thursday,” he said.
Car market leader Maruti Suzuki is not one to be left behind either. They have experienced a 35% rise in sales. “We will deliver more than 1,000 cars across Gujarat on Janmashtami,” said regional manager at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Vishal Sharma.
The luxury cars segment has perked up considerably around this period. What’s more, many buyers of such cars are looking for an appropriate mahurat for the car to be dropped home, and Janmashtami appears to be a favourite.
Mercedes dealer Paras Somani is geared up to make five deliveries in Ahmedabad and two in Surat on Thursday.
Car dealer Talha Sareshwala, who deals in BMWs, says, “The festive season has worked wonders for our business. Sales have doubled this year, and we are completely booked till Navratri. In the week around Janmashtami, we are delivering a total of 18 cars.”
Audi is in the same bracket too, with four deliveries lined up for Janmashtami.
Besides the festive season, the change in product portfolio and new attractive entrants in the market are also a reason for increased sales on Janmashtami, say dealers.
Two-wheelers have also witnessed an average 50% rise in business this year, on the occasion of Janmashtami.
Bajaj Auto is seeing three-and-a-half times more sales this year. “We will deliver 1,000 Bajaj bikes on Janmashtami, which is 250% more than last year. The entry of the new Discover bike is also a reason behind the increased sales,” said Manish Khatav, regional manager for Bajaj
Auto Ltd..
