Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi today said hisgovernment will not compromise on the Mullaperiyar dam issue, considering the future of farmers in the state.
"Mullaperiyar is an important issue. And we are concerned. But we cannot compromise on this issue, which will put the future of the farmers in jeopardy," he told reporters here.
Referring to AIADMK MLAs sporting black outfits during the budget presentation today, Karunanidhi quipped that they probably did so after the Supreme Court declined to stay trial against their party chief Jayalalithaa in a disproportionate assets case being held in Karnataka.
On campaigning for his party's candidate for the March 27 Pennagaram bypoll, Karunanidhi said he was going there since he did not want the people to be disappointed. "I have gone there many times on earlier occasions to propagate DMK's principles," he said.
