Three youth in Maninagar were caught by the Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) personnel for bike theft. The three were initially stopped by the LRD personnel for breaking traffic rules near Siddhi Vinayak Hospital.

The trio, Mohammad Asif Saiyad, Muja Musir Qureshi and Abdul Rauf, was riding a bike when they were stopped and made to pay fine. It was then that the personnel became suspicious of the bike's key which led to the revelation about their involvement in theft of 45 bikes. They used to sell the bikes and make money out of it.

Police inspector at Maninagar police station, Dineshsinh Chauhan told DNA that the youth confessed to stealing 45 bikes from different areas in Ahmedabad. The trio aged between 20 and 22, are residents of Behrampura, said police.

"It was during patrolling on Thursday afternoon that Lok Rakshak Dal personnel stopped the three for riding the bike triple seat. When they were asked for the bike's papers, they had no documents to show. It is when the personnel found the bike's key to be broken that they were taken to Maninagar police station," said Chauhan.

He added that upon further interrogation, the trio confessed to stealing the bikes and selling it to one of their acquaintances - Soheb Qureshi in Behrampura. The accused also revealed that they were involved in stealing of bikes for a year. "They used to sell all the stolen bikes for a mere Rs2,000 to Qureshi in Parikshit Nagar in Behrampura.
To avoid any trouble, Qureshi would dismantle the bikes' parts and sell them separately," added Chauhan.

Police recovered three bikes and some of the spare parts. Chauhan said they stole bike to make money to fund their hobbies.

They stole nine bikes from Maninagar, six from Navrangpura, two from Vastrapur, five from Kagdapith and three from Amraiwadi, said police.
