Three policemen suspended for extorting money from public in UP

Three constables charged with extorting money from public have been suspended and a police station in-charge has been sent to lines in two separate incidents in Lucknow and Saharanpur, police said here today.

Acting on a complaint of a truck driver that a constable snatched Rs 19,000 from him in Chinhat police station area here two days ago, Lucknow DIG Prem Prakash suspended the policeman, they said.

A case under Anti-corruption Act was registered against the constable, police added.

In a similar case in Sahranpur, two constables who had demanded money from animal traders in Kutubsher police station area were suspended and the in-charge of the police station was sent to lines, they said.
