Three firearm suppliers and seven criminals arrested in Patna

Three firearm suppliers and seven criminals were arrested and nine firearms, six magazines of different bores and 17 live cartridges recovered from their possession during a raid conducted by police against arms suppliers in the state capital today, police sources said.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amit Kumar Jain and city superintendent of police Manu Mharaj told reporters in Patna that on a specific information police raided a place near Mahavir mandir adjacent to Patna railway junction and arrested three arms smugglers possessing three firearms, six magazines and live cartridges.

The SSP said those arrested by the district police had been identified as Chandrashekhar Azad, Sudhir Kumar and Vijay Kumar Tanti. While Azad and Sudhir were residents of Naxalite affected Aurangabad district, Tanti belonged to another Naxalite infested district of Munger.

Jain said the persons were regular arms supplier to naxalite outfits in Orissa and the criminals operating in Delhi and adjoining states.

The SSP said the arms dealers taken into custody from a place near Patna railway junction were on way to Keonjhar district in Orissa.

Meanwhile, city SP Manu Maharaj arrested seven criminals with six country made revolvers and ten live cartridges under Gardanibagh police station area of the state capital.
