Three bullet-riddled bodies of suspected car thieves were found here today, police said.
The three bodies with over 30 bullet injury marks were found by locals near the Hatishila Ganesh temple on the banks of river Brahmaputra.
The locals said they heard several bullet-like firing sounds late last night but had mistaken them for firecrackers bursting in weddings.
They were identified as Ramen Narzary of Kokrajhar in Assam, Lakhan Rai of Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, while another from Mizoram remained unidentified, police said.
A Scorpio vehicle without a number plate, suspected to have been stolen by them, was recovered one kilometre away.
