Three Bangladeshis convicted for living illegally in country

The court of metropolitan magistrate GM Patel sentenced three Bangladeshi nationals staying in India illegally for years to 20 months imprisonment. Those convicted included Surjit Das Machuwara, a resident of Chitagoan district, Moti Soddar alias Muktar Hasim Soddar from Noidai

and Alimul Islam Khandukar from Kholna district in Bangladesh. The three were convicted under section 2 and 14 of the Foreigners Act. The three were also involved in a burglary case.

As per case details, the three robbed a house of one Bipin Bhai at Dutt Society in Paldi in November 2006 and escaped to New Delhi. However they were arrested there in another case on May 2008 and recently the crime branch officials brought them to the city on a transfer warrant. They were produced before metropolitan magistrate, GM Patel’s court on Tuesday where they confessed to residing illegally in Ahmedabad for years. The court sentenced them to 20 months in prison and also ordered them to be sent to their native country once their term ends.
