Thirteen more coastal stations to be set up in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore: Security had been strengthened in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and 13 more coastal police stations would be set up by next year, a top police official has said.


Already there were 12 coastal police stations in the state, Tamil Nadu DGP, KP Jain told reporters here yesterday.

Marine patrol boats would also be be increased to 24 from the present six as part of strengthening security, he said.

He said 4,000 constables were recruited during year and additional 9,000 constables and 1,000 sub-inspectors would be recruited next year.

The crime rate was very low in Tamil Nadu compared to other states while crime detection rate had increased. Steps were being taken to prevent sandalwood smuggling, which were on the increasing of late, Jain said.
