Four women from Andhra Pradesh, along with their four children, were arrested from Kalupur area on Saturday allegedly for stealing. The women were using their children as  ‘front men’ and police have recovered many stolen valuables from them.

Acting on a tip-off, Kalupur police nabbed the eight from Revadi Bazar in Kalupur on Saturday morning. The women were identified as Rajeshwari Telugu, 35; Munni Taili, 27; Ullkamma Taili, 30 and Rukku Naidu. Rajeshwari presently lives in Nandi Gram Row House in Naroda while the other three are residents of Sarania Vaas in Naroda. The children are aged seven to 10 years, Kalupur police said.

Police have recovered Rs82,000 cash, a laptop and ten mobile phones from the women. “They have confessed to have stolen the laptop from a parked car in Naroda and mobile phones from areas like Karanj, Relief Road, Kalupur, Revdi Bazar etc,” Kalupur police said.

The women made use of their children to commit crimes. “They included the children in their criminal activities in order to escape public anger in case they should be caught red handed. They would dress the children in fine clothes so that nobody suspected them,” the police added.

"The children would either distract people in cars and run away with the valuables in the vehicles or stand close to the vehicles and as soon as their owners would open the lock, they would swiftly decamp with something in their hands," the police further said.

Moreover, husbands of these women are suspected to have been involved in such activities too, the police added.

Kalupur police have registered cases against the women and have begun further investigation.
