There’s still hope for some more spells in Ahmedabad

Residents of Ahmedabad woke up to puddles and waterlogging on Tuesday as the city received on an average 24 mm of rainfall, thanks to the late-night showers registered on Monday.

Residents of Ahmedabad woke up to puddles and waterlogging on Tuesday as the city received on an average 24 mm of rainfall, thanks to the late-night showers registered on Monday. It was the northern zone (34mm) of the city that received the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours, followed by west (31mm) and north west zone (28mm).

Four incidents of trees being uprooted was reported following the rains while waterlogging was also reported from several areas. The city has so far received 366mm of rainfall since the beginning of June, a deficit of 226mm. The rains, however, did not bring down the temperature substantially. The city registered a maximum temperature of 31.5 degree celsius. “More than the rains I love the cloudy atmosphere. It is far more bearable to be out on the streets in such a weather than when it is blazing hot,” said Amita Sisodiya a home-maker out to buy some vegetables in satellite.

The Met department has predicted a few spells of rain or thundershowers across the district. Viramgam registered 8 mm or rainfall followed by Bavla (6mm). Apparently the capital also had its share of rain. A government release stated that Gandhingar received 4 inches of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Across the state 18 districts and 53 talukas received rainfall. The government meanwhile said that 156 talukas had received rain in the last 24 hours.

The other areas that received heavy rains were Dharampur in Valsad (85mm) and Bayda taluka in Sabarkanthaa which received 86mm of rainfall. Moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers have been predicted for almost all districts of the state. Heavy rainfall warning have also been issued for some districts of the state.
