The Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit (VGGIS) 2011 will be a grand affair so much so that it is being promoted as an event that is at par with Davos. The Vibrant Summit 2011 is being promoted as ‘Davos in Action Summit’.

And the event has been given a budget allocation of a whopping Rs32.5 crore to match its name. The money is to be spent for marketing of the event among others. It should be noted that VGGIS is chief minister Narendra Modi’s pet project aimed at promoting investment in Gujarat.

The VGGIS 2009 had attracted investment MOUs (memorandum of understanding) worth Rs12 lakh crore . Highly placed sources in the state government said that to maintain the expectations created by VGGIS 2009, the state government has planned to take the biennial event to the next level and budget should not be a constraint for the same. The  VGGIS is being organized in the state since 2003. The government plans to purchase 17 new vehicles with a budget of Rs93 lakh to promote the event.

Talking about why the vehicles will be needed, a source said that the state has received many investment proposals during the various VGGISs. “This has led to establishment of new industrial units in the state and this has increased the work load of district industries centre and industries commissionerate,” said the source said.

The source said these officials also need to look after the various Central government schemes and to ensure effective follow up, these officials need to travel to various districts and hence the need for the vehicles.
