The Delhi police on Tuesday claimed to have foiled a bid by terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) to carry out extensive bombings across Maharashtra during the ongoing Ganpati festival.
They have arrested Yousuf alias Mohammad Salim and claim to have seized large quantities of explosives, including chemicals, timers and detonators, besides a Pakistani passport and other incriminating documents from him.
The LeT had plans to target busy markets and temples to cause maximum damage, the police said. A special cell team and sleuths of the Intelligence Bureau are presently interrogating Yousuf, 27.
The special cell had information that he would be arriving in the capital on Tuesday. Yousuf was arrested near the New Delhi railway station immediately after he landed, a senior police officer said. “He has confessed to working for the LeT and about his plans in Maharashtra," he added.
“We are trying to find out the LeT’s precise plan,” joint commissioner of police, special cell, PN Aggarwal said.
