The five-member committee constituted on the Telangana issue is likely to have a tenure of one year and its terms of reference (ToR) may be made public this week.

Sources said the ToR has been finalised by the home ministry in consultation with the chairman of the committee justice (Retd) BN Srikrishna and member-secretary Vinod K Duggal but it will be announced only when the Core Group of the Congress party gives its approval.

"It is a very sensitive issue. We have to be careful in every step. So we are trying our best to look into all angles before the terms of reference are announced," an official said.

The government on February 2 had announced the five-member committee which would hold wide-ranging consultations with all sections of people and different political parties and groups on "the situation in Andhra Pradesh".

The other members of the committee are Ranbir Singh, Abusaleh Shariff and Ravinder Kaur.
