Team Anna postpones its meeting indefinitely

Anna Hazare's key aide Arvind Kejriwal on Monday declared that the core committee would decide upon the future course of action after the veteran social activist recovered from his ailment.

Kejriwal, who arrived here to meet Hazare, announced that the meeting of the core committee had been postponed indefinitely and that they would wait for the latter to be fully fit to participate in the discussions.

"His (Hazare) health is most important to us. The whole country and its people want Anna Hazare to remain healthy. His health is of prime importance and we would take into account every suggestion that is given by the doctors," said Kejriwal, while emphasising that that there was no immediate plan of agitation as the doctors had issued a strict advisory against Anna Hazare fasting.

"We need to speak to the doctor and get an update on his health. We would also need to speak to Anna (Hazare) and then plan forward. Also, there is no fast planned in the near future," he added.

Kejriwal further said Hazare had been suffering from chest infection before the fast began and it was called off when his condition deteriorated.

"He (Hazare) was not well before the three-day fast and opposition began. Anna never said that his health deteriorated because of the fast. He had an infection and he was unwell for the past three days before the fast," said Kejriwal.

"And we had urged him not to fast because it would make him more ill. We then had to break the fast because of his health," he added.

Doctors attending to Anna Hazare have advised him at least five days of rest taking into consideration his deteriorating health.

Hazare's Doctor Narendra Kewadia said that the 74-year-old social activist will have to stay in bed for another five days.

"Anna Hazare needs a medical treatment for five to six days. He will have to be in the hospital for at least five days and we will treat him with antibiotics and other medicines. As soon as the he shows improvement, he will be free to decide where he wants to go," said Kewadia.

"But for the next five days we have asked him to take complete rest and should avoid meeting public," he added.

Kewadia further said that Hazare has recently shown some signs of improvement.

"He is looking much better today, he got up on time, he was looking fresh, he had his breakfast normally, his pulse rate, blood pressure is normal. Blood pressure yesterday night was slightly on the higher side, but it is normal now, it is 130/90," said Kewadia.

"His lung function test was carried out today morning and that is absolutely normal. His vital capacity is almost 99% and his lungs are quite good," he added.

Anna Hazare is presently recuperating at the Sancheti Hospital in Pune.

Concerns over Anna Hazare's health have been mounting ever since he went on a three-day fast to press his forum's demand for a strong and effective Lokpal body at Mumbai recently.

The veteran social activist was forced to cut short his hunger strike after a team of specialists advised him to start eating again on the second day of his fast, citing low blood pressure, weakness and threat to his kidneys.
