Tankers's strike in Jammu and Kashmir, petrol products' supply hit

The supply of petroleum products to Jammu and Kashmir was hit today as two tanker associations went on an indefinite strike to protest attacks on tanker drivers and conductors in the Valley.

Jammu and Kashmir Petrol and Oil Tankers Association (JKPOTA) and All Jammu and Kashmir Oil Tanker Drivers and
Cleaner Union (AJKOTDCU) have gone on strike to protest the
alleged failure of the state government to protect Oil tankers
from increasing attacks in Valley.

"We have decided to go on indefinite strike on entire Jammu and Kashmir and not to supply kerosene, petrol and diesel in protest against the chain of attacks on oil tankers, drivers and conductors in Kashmir valley", JKPOTA president, Anan Sharma told reporters here.

Till the government provides security cover to Tanker drivers and conductors in Kashmir valley they will not start supplies, he said.

There are over 400 to 450 petrol and oil tankers supplying kerosene oil, petrol and diesel to petrol pumps from main depots in Jammu to Ladakh, Kargil, Kashmir and Jammu region on daily basis.

"No tanker has loaded any fuel for supply across JK yesterday and today", Sharma said adding "we have to see safety our drivers and conductors and also tankers."

Over 50 drivers and conductors were injured and 70 tankers subjected to stone pelting and attacks in Kashmir valley by protesters during past two months period, he said and demanded compensation for damaged tankers and injured
truckers.

"Our colleagues were targeted and mercilessly beaten by the protesters in Awantipora and Pampore areas last week", general secretary, AJKOTDCU, Davinder Singh told reporters here.
