M Jayachandran, the Commonwealth Games organising committee (OC) official who was suspended for corruption, has moved Delhi high court saying he is innocent. “I played no role in hiring companies during the Queen’s Baton Relay in London last year. I only followed released the payments after due sanction” he said.

He has filed a defamation suit of Rs5 crore and accused OC of not conducting a proper inquiry before suspending him.

“The internal committee set up by OC to look into the allegations did not give me a chance to present my side. OC’s actions were violative to the principles of natural justice and therefore illegal, arbitrary, bad in law and are liable to be declared as such,” Jayachandran said in his petition.

Justice Sunil Gaur has admitted his plea and has issued a notice to OC, its chairman Suresh Kalmadi and 15 others, including Michael Fennel and Mike Hooper, and has asked them to file their response by January 4.
