With the Supreme Court questioning the tenability of PJ Thomas as chief vigilance commissioner, the BJP today hit out at the government over his appointment and his continuance at the top post.

Asked by reporters outside Parliament if the CVC should resign following the remarks by the apex court today, leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said "this question should be put to the government. How can you have such a CVC and for how long? I have said this in the committee itself. My stand has been vindicated."

The main opposition has been against Thomas's appointment for the top job right from beginning and even boycotted his swearing-in ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan a few months ago.

BJP had pointed out that Thomas's name had figured in the palmolein oil import case which dates back to 1990s when he was Kerala food secretary.
