The state government has decided to develop one more state highway that will connect Surat with NH no8 from Sevani village in Kamrej taluka. The highway will connect eight villages adjoining city and will ease traffic congestion at the current highways linking Surat.
To ease traffic, state Road and Building Department has planned a third highway from Varaccha. The highway which will be 24-km long will serve as an important by-pass and entry-exit point for city.
The proposed highway will pass from Nana-Varachha, Morthan and Vihan villages and will end at Sevani villages, connecting NH 8 to Surat.
PWD (Public Works Department), who is entrusted for construction of this highway, has acquired 60 hectares of land for the project. The proposed work on highway will start within few weeks as PWD department has issued tenders worth Rs10 crore for the project. The total proposed cost and time frame fixed for the preparing the highway is not certain yet.
"Once the highway is completed it will reduce the traffic congestion on existing entry and exit routes, during peak hours. Surat badly needed another route and after properly reviewing, state government has approved the project. We plan to complete the project in shortest possible time," UB Pavaghadia, executive engineer of PWD, said.
At present there are two state highways from Kadodara and Kamrej to connect Surat, while there is one by-pass road from Palsana to Sachin GIDC cross roads. Due to rapid development all three routes remain jam packed in peak hours, creating a nightmare for vehicle drivers.
