Surat's diamond indutry upbeat over Mumbai exhibition

After battling recession and financial crunch, diamond industries in Surat are gearing up again for making international business. City-based diamond units are eyeing an International Diamond Jewellery exhibition which will be held in Mumbai from August 6 to August 10. Diamond units are eager to display their latest designs at the show.

Every year Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) in Surat organises an International Jewellery exhibition, which works as a platform for diamond manufacturers and jewelers in India to display their work. This year, the exhibition will be held at NSE complex in Mumbai for five days and about 750 diamond industries will take part in it. GJEPC has created 1,100 stalls and traders and businessmen from China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia and East European Countries will participate in the event.

Vasant Mehta, chairman of GJEPC said that exhibition will provide an opportunity, which local diamond business were looking forward for a long time. Apart from this, it will also help to gain knowledge of international trends. GJEPC is expecting 30,000 visitors at the exhibition.

“The diamond industry is struggling for existence and now is eyeing the exhibition for new trade options. It is good that traders from Belgium and Israel are also taking part in the exhibition. Chinese traders are also going to display their designs on diamonds having size of .20, .30 & 3 carat size,” Mehta added.
