The Surat Diamond Association (SDA) has sought details about the Indians detained in China from the Union ministry of External Affairs(MEA), after reports came in that the detainees have links with Surat.

China has kept 21 Indians at a detention centre in its Shenzhen province for their alleged involvement in illegal transportation of diamonds from Hong Kong to Shenzhen.

"In a letter written to the MEA, we have sought information about the arrests of Indians in China," president SDA Rohit Mehta told PTI.

"We still have no clue about Indians detained in China, but from the reports it appears that those detained there have some linkage either with sister concerns or with business associates of diamond units in Surat," Mehta said. Indian embassy is arranging legal assistance for those detained, according to sources.
