Surat railway station will soon get sturdy and clean tracks. The western railway is not only revamping all the tracks passing through Surat station, but also repairing both Varachha & Katargam railway under-passes. Considering the future requirements, the railway authorities are using a latest technique called automatic structure formula that is used in Germany, for laying the tracks. Interestingly, it is for the first time that western railway is using such a technique to lay the tracks. M-55 grade of concrete, usually used for building atomic power stations, is being used for constructing the tracks. This grade of concrete can sustain extra load, strain and wear and tear as compared to other ordinary mix of concrete.

"This grade of concrete does not develop cracks during summers and winters, thereby ensuring the strength of the base of the track. Although such kind of technology was used for constructing Delhi metro rail, it is for the first time that western railway is using it," said FA Sheikh, the station manager of Surat railway station.

Sheikh added that the track will provide maximum safety for high speed trains that run above 80 km/hour. The contractor of the western railway, who is entrusted with the work, has tied up with IRDHA company of Germany for building the tracks.

Apart from strengthening the tracks, the western railways have also taken up the initiative of keeping them clean round the clock. For this, auto flush technique is being used, wherein the tracks will be washed immediately after a train passes. This will instantly clean all oil deposits, human waste and other filth from the tracks.
