A man killed his wife at their residence at Adajan in Surat late on Tuesday night, allegedly because she was having an extra-marital affair for a long time. Police caught the husband while he was escaping from the scene of the crime. Police have started a search for his associate, believed to be his nephew.

Anil Vibhani (37), a resident of Green Enclave, was married to Sonal and is the father of their three children. The couple had been fighting over an issue for many months following which Anil left the house. On Tuesday at 12:45 am, Anil barged into the house with his nephew Rajan Chauhan and went straight into the bedroom where Sonal was sleeping with the three children.

On seeing Anil, Sonal immediately informed the police and the former, along with Rajan, attacked Sonal with a sharp weapon. But she escaped the attack, only sustaining injuries on her hand. Later, the two men pushed her to the ground and slit her throat.
“Anil locked his three children in a room to prevent their screams from being heard by the neighbours and jumped over the gates and fled. Just a few metres from the house Anil was caught by patrolling cops. Rajan, however, is still at large,” said SJ Baloch, inspector, Adajan police station.

Sources said Sonal was having an extra-marital affair with Rakesh, alias Polo, for a long time and this was the reason for the couple's daily tussles. Depressed with Sonal's behaviour, Anil left the house only to return on Tuesday to resolve the issue.

“Anil confessed that on Tuesday he had come to sort out the issue with his wife and wanted Sonal to end her affair. However, Sonal started arguing with him and called the police. It was then that Anil, along with his nephew, attacked Sonal,” Baloch said. Adajan police, investigating the case, have also started a hunt for Rajan.
