Sugarcane growers not be affected in Haryana

Chandigarh: Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said that sugarcane growers in the state would not be affected by the decision of the Central Government to set a nation-wide base price for sugarcane as the Government had already announced highest ever price of sugarcane for the farmers.

The chief minister, who was replying to the questions of representatives of media at his residence here, was asked whether the ongoing protest against decision of the Central Government would affect the farmers of Haryana.

Hooda said that the farmers in the State were already being paid the highest price of Rs 185 per quintal for the year 2009 -10.

In addition, they would get a bonus of Rs. 25 per quintal for supplying sugarcane to the cooperative sugarmills.

For the next year, that is 2010-11, the State Government had already announceda price of Rs. 210 per quintal, he added.
