If everything goes as per plan, engineering students from the Gujarat Technological University (GTU) will get an opportunity to work with auto giants in Germany.

Harald Darlong, managing director of a German HR firm called Die-PA Gmbh visited the GTU to meet vice-chancellor Dr Akshai Aggarwal on Tuesday. He initiated a dialogue on an exchange programme with the varsity and placement of students with auto majors.

Darlong said that he was impressed with the varsity's work and intends to offer an exchange programme of three months initially. This will help his firm understand Indian culture and work style.

"Eventually, we plan to sign an MoU with the GTU to help it place engineering students at major companies like BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes," he said.

He said that his firm was keen on recruiting students from the GTU and aimed to place the "best of them". "We are looking for students with a combination of brain and heart," he said.

"Initially, we will start with 50 to 60 students and place them in the auto companies for a span of two to three years. Gradually we will increase the number to 200 students per year."

He insisted that students going to Germany will have to go through a crash course in German to get a comfort level in interaction. "Students are smarter these days. As far as English is concerned, they will learn as per requirement," he said.

Die-PA is focusing more on BE students of automobile, mechanical, aviation and electrical streams and their client list in Germany includes German companies like BMW, Airbus, Mercedes-Benz, Bosch and Voith.
