Student arrested for murdering IIT-Delhi girl

An IIT-Roorkee student, who escaped after allegedly murdering his girlfriend from IIT-Delhi at a hotel here, has been arrested from Yamunanagar in Haryana, police said today.
           
Gaurav Verma was arrested from a train at Jiradari in Yamunanagar last night while he was fleeing after allegedly murdering 22-year-old Pragati, a student of textile designing at IIT Delhi, additional superintendent of police, Shimla, AK Dhiman said.
       
The girl is a resident of Patna while the boy is a third-year student of IIT Roorkee and a native of Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh.
             
While Pragati was found dead with her throat slit in a hotel room in Boileyganj yesterday afternoon, the boy had been missing. A knife, which was lying on the bed, a broken liquor bottle and a laptop were found from the room.
             
The two had arrived at the hotel at 3 AM on Friday night from Delhi by a taxi.
        
Shimla police had identified the boy on the basis of the entry made in the hotel records and had spoken to authorities at IIT-Roorkee as well as his parents at Gonda.
             
The body of the girl has been handed over to her family after post-mortem, the ASP said.
