ShareKanpur: The strike called by the junior doctors of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical College here today entered its fifth day after the talks between the junior doctors and senior government officials failed in Lucknow.
The hospital now looks rather deserted, as the patients are shifting to other hospitals in the city.
When contacted, Superintendent of the medical college, Dr VN Tripathi said, "Any statement pertaining to the strike will be given by the Principal of the medical college, Dr Anand Swarup."
However, despite repeated attempts, principal of the medical college could not be contacted for comments.
Chief medical Officer of Kanpur, Dr A Nagaich said, "There has been a rush of patients to other hospitals due to the strike called by the junior doctors. Additional beds are being put and services of doctors belonging to Provincial Medical Services are being roped in."
While the 300 striking junior doctors demand full implementation of the sixth pay commission report enabling them to have their salaries like that of their counterparts from Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University, Lucknow, hospital authorities have warned the junior doctors to resume work or face disciplinary actions.
