More than 100 passengers complained of reckless behaviour by authorities of Spice Jet airlines after their flight was delayed by more than three hours on Tuesday morning. The angry passengers created a big commotion at the SVPI airport.

Many passengers told DNA that their flight (Delhi-Ahmedabad-Mumbai) was to depart at 9:30am from SVPI airport and so they had come one-and-a-half hour early. They said even by 9am, no airlines official informed them about the delay. The furious passengers started shouting out their discomfort and demanded explanations.

Mohammad Amin Khan, one of the passengers, said, "There were many people who had come from far-flung districts. They had been waiting since 7 in the morning.  Besides, passengers from city had already waited for two hours before we came to know that the flight was delayed. The airline officials didn't inform us. When we tried to know, they behaved rudely."

Many passengers said that to catch a flight they had started their journey two hours before schedule. After waiting for two hours at the airport they were forced to wait for another three hours, without water, proper sitting arrangements or any other facilities.

Another passenger, Manubhai Makwana, said that the airlines tell passengers to report one-and-a-half hours early but in situations when the flights get delayed, the officials simply refuse to take care of the passengers. Finally, the flight took off at around 1pm.

"I waited for more than five hours before boarding the flight. What's the point in paying thousands of rupees for every trip and still having to wait for hours? asked a passenger who had come from Anand district.

Airlines officials, also on conditions of anonymity, said that the delay was caused by bad weather conditions in Delhi. However, they refused to comment when asked about complaints from passengers related to mismanagement.
