Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister MK Stalin, turning 57 on March 1, has appealed to DMK activists to celebrate his birthday in a "constructive manner" and desist from pomp and grandeur.

Stalin, considered the political heir of his father and chief minister M Karunanidhi, in a 'strict request' to DMK workers, said neither banners and cut-outs of his should be erected nor there be any print advertisements.

''Stop any such arranegements if they had been made. Common people should not be disturbed in the name of (my) birthday celebrations,'' Stalin, who is also DMK treasurer, said in a statment last evening.

Those striving for party's growth and people's welfare should celebrate his birthday in a 'constructive manner' without any grandeur, Stalin, elevated as deputy chief minister last year, said.

Earlier, Jayalalaithaa had asked her partymen not to indulge in any grandeur during her birthday on February 24 saying she saw no reason for them as the 'misrule of DMK' had put the 'state on the path of destruction.'

She had urged her party workers to do public welfare measures like massfeeding and blood donation.
