The state’s pass percentage in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination (71.04%) has dipped this year by 7.68% compared to last year. While Pune is the highest (80.39%), Mumbai just managed to score the second position (80.03%) with Kolhapur (79.76%) and Nashik (79.30%) following close behind.

But for many students, scoring a perfect 100% was an easy game. The reason: 25 marks for sport. Yash Patil and Shreerang Javadekar from IES Modern English School in Dadar scored a 100%, thanks to the 25 marks that was added to their total of 525. The story is almost same for many others from the city who have scored 100% — they studied and played hard.

Overall Mumbai's performance was good, RR Bhise, secretary, Mumbai Division, said. “There was a marginal decrease of 1% in the results compared to last year,” he said.

Continuing last year’s trend, girls fared better than boys with the overall pass percentage among girls being 74.06% and among boys 68.58%.

“Vigilance methods to prevent malpractice was very strict this year,” Ujwala Patil, chairperson of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Examination, said.

“We caught 3,268 students cheating. The percentage might be low this year, but the results are fair.”
