Veteran sports journalist and former principal correspondent of Bengali daily 'Bartaman' Ashok Chattopadhyay died here today after a brief illness.
He was 61 and is survived by his wife and two sons.
Chattopadhyay started his journalism career in sports weekly 'Khelar Asar' during the seventies and then joined the city-based Bengali daily 'Bartaman' from where he retired few years back.
Known in the sports journalists fraternity for his amiable nature, he also displayed his acumen in writing short stories based on various sporting themes.
His body was cremated at a south Kolkata crematorium this afternoon.
