The Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Gujart riots today recorded the statement of former state BJP general secretary Nalin Bhatt.
The investigation agency headed by former CBI director RK Raghvan summoned Bhatt to depose before it in connection with a complaint by Zakia Jaffery, whose husband and former Congress MP Ehsan Jaffery was among 69 people killed at Gulbarg society during 2002 communal riots in the state.
"I have recorded my statement before the officials of the agency. I answered all the questions they posed to me," Bhatt said.
He, however, refused to divulge what exactly what was asked. Bhatt is no longer with BJP, as he was removed by the party in 2006 for anti-party activities.
Bhatt is among the 62 people named by former MP's widow for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to carry out riots in which people belonging to the minority community where targeted.
The SIT has also summoned state chief minister Narendra Modi to appear before it on March 21 in connection with Jaffery's complaint.
