The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has summoned Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi in connection with the 2002 riots, has completed questioning of most of the persons named by a victim's widow.

SIT sources today said it has already recorded statements of a number of persons named in the complaint of Zakia, widow of former Congress MP Ehsan Jaffery who was killed along with 69 others in the 2002 Gulberg society riots.

In her complaint, Zakia had named former minister of state for home Gordhan Zadafia, BJP leader IK Jadeja, ex-IPS officer RB Sreekumar, social activist Teesta Setalvad, IG
Shivanand Jha, senior police officers and political leaders, and their statements have been taken, sources in the SIT said.

Former BJP MLA from Lunawada Kalu Malivad and sitting MLA from Mehsana Anil Patel have also been questioned by the SIT in the last couple of days, they said.

Patel confirmed that he was questioned by SIT yesterday as his name was mentioned in the complaint, and said, "I was neither an MLA or minister in 2002. I was not involved at all. My name might have been added in the complaint by mistake.

"I have told the SIT about this when they had called me," he added.

Modi has been summoned by the SIT to appear before it on March 21.
