Special children to make, sell designer products

Spandan, school for special children in Vadodara will come up with designer products which will be made by mentally challenged children. The new range of products would include designer jewellery, aromatic candles and other gift articles. The products prepared by the children will be finished products and will soon be up for sale in malls.

The children have developed an entire range of designer products like designer sets, earings, neckless and many more which are in high demand.These children are very creative. With some guidance, they can do wonders. “They get involved in things which attract them. Spandan, runs a vocational training centre, where these children learn the trade. It can benefit them in their future,” says Jayshree Chaudhary, principal of Spandan.

Stationary material and other accessories such as files, and purses are made by these children too. Government organisations support them by placing large orders regularly.
“We are currently concentrating on designer products, as there is a great demand in the market. The children can also earn good amount of money from it. They also will not have to be dependent on anyone for their livelihood,” said Chaudhary.

The starting price range of the products is between Rs200 to Rs800 for the designer sets. The fashion earrings are also in great demand. While the designer Batvas are also specially prepared by these children. “We are also going to offer the dulhan sets prepared by the special children on rental basis also. Generally the dulhan sets are taken on rental basis as they are expensive. Seeing the trend, the idea came to our mind and now we would start it,” she added.
