Samajwadi Party today staged a walkout in the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha expressing its reservations about any proposed move to further divide the state.
The issue which came up through a question by Ajay Tomar of the Rashtriya Lok Dal saw SP members raising supplementaries and stressing that the experience of creation of Uttaranchal has not been good and the thrust should be on development and not on creating new states.
Avdhesh Prasad and Ambika Chaudhary of SP said their party was against the creation of states on the basis of religion, language and region, saying the past experience in this regard has not been good.
Hukum Singh of the BJP sought to know the government's policy and intentions on the issue.
Parliametary affairs minister, Lalji Verma, said in his reply that through two separate letters, the Centre has been asked to give permission for the creation of three new states of Bundelkhand, Western UP and Purvanchal after which the state government would get a proposal to this effect passed by the Vidhan Sabha.
As per the Constitution, creation of new states did not come within the jurisdiction of the state, he said.
However, the SP members forcefully vented their views against the idea of creation of new states and raised slogans before staging a walkout.
Earlier, Opposition Congress also staged a walk out in UP assembly terming state government's efforts to check
adulteration and factories making synthetic food items as
"inadequate".
The issue which came up through an adjournment notice moved by Congress members saw their leader Pramod Tewari demanding prosivion of capital punishment for those playing
with the lives of crores of people by making synthetic food
items and indulging in adulteration.
A parallel industry of fake food items was being run in the state in connivance with junior-level government officials, he alleged.
In his reply, parliamentary affairs minister Lalji Verma gave details of the action taken by the government and assured the House that there would be no laxity in dealing with such a big crime.
CLP leader Pramod Tewari sought to know as to what the government had done to check the industries making fake food
items and drew the attention of the House to hundreds of
vacant posts in the concerned department and lack of labs to
check samples.
"Government raids are aimed at catching fake products instead of getting hold of such factories which are making them", Tewari said.
Alleging that it went on to prove that government had an understanding with such people, the Congress members led by
Tiwari staged a walkout from the house.
