Taking a dig at the austerity drive launched by Uttar Pradesh government, Samajawadi Party today said that while Mayawati has directed ministers and officers to cut their expenses, she herself was leading a five-star lifestyle.

"Mayawati, who is teaching austerity lessons to her ministers and officers, is herself leading a five-star lifestyle and misusing government coffers on statues, memorials and parks," SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary alleged here.

He said that the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led SP government left a buffer of Rs24,000 crore in the government coffers, which was misutilised by the present regime.

"The situation had reached a point, where the government is forced to take loan from the market and the Reserve Bank to pay salaries and meet other expenses. Till August the total overdraft of the state was Rs700 crore," Chaudhary alleged.

"The chief minister was indulging into a drama by curtailing the government expenditure, but her own security cover had not been reduced on which a crore of rupees is being spent," the SP leader said.

The SP also demanded that the state government issue a white paper on the financial transactions.
