Making Union tourism ministry's Atithi Devo Bhavah programme look only as a sloganeering process, a South Korean tourist gets robbed in the city streets, police reported here on Sunday.

According to police the foreign national from Seoul was robbed in Madhavpura with the thieves taking away most of his belongings worth Rs1.32 lakh. According to police 40-year-old Diyo Jung Haq had arrived in Ahmedabad from Mumbai on Thursday.

The next day he was sitting beside the Himalaya Travels at Hajipura Garden in Madhavpura with his luggage comprising five bags at around 7:30pm, when thieves stole all his bags.

"The owner of Himalaya Travels brought the foreign national to us and we registered his complaint. It was very difficult for us to get information and what exactly had happened with him. However, we lodged his complaint and have started investigating the case," said sub-inspector JB Jadhav, who is in-charge of investigating the case.

Jadhav further said that the tourist is probably a photo journalist and had already visited many places including Delhi, Agra, Jhansi, Bhopal and Mumbai. On Saturday he had left for Rajasthan. He also added further that Haq was seen talking to some street children and was involved with the interaction. In the meanwhile, somebody walked away with his belongings, he added.
