Soumya Vishwanathan's alleged killer bangs head; check-up ordered

A key accused in the murders of TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan and IT executive Jigisha Ghosh allegedly banged his head against the wall of the lock-up after which a court here today asked Delhi Police to take him for a medical check-up.
    
Profusely bleeding Ravi Kapoor, who came to appear in an eight-year-old car theft case, told additional chief metropolitan magistrate Kiran Bansal that he was being tortured in Tihar jail.

The accused allegedly banged his head against the wall of the lock-up at Patiala House courts here with an aim to implicate the policemen.

The court asked the accompanying policemen to take him to a nearby hospital for a check-up and file a report on January 28, the next date of hearing.

"You will have to file a separate complaint case against the police officials if you are being subjected to torture in custody," the court told Kapoor.

Kapoor, who was made an accused in a car theft case lodged with Vasant Kunj police station in 2002, had allegedly shot at Soumya on the night of September 30 last year while she was returning home by her car from office at 3:30 am.
    
He, along with Baljit S Malik, Amit Shukla, Ajay Kumar and Ajay Sethi, was also facing prosecution for allegedly killing IT executive Ghosh on March 18 last year. The probe into the case led to the cracking of Soumya's matter as well, police said.
