While team Anna commenced its two-day visit to Punjab highlighting the failure of the UPA government to adopt a strong Lokpal bill to fight corruption, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi touted the UPA government as “one of the most successful governments at the Centre.”
Team Anna comprising Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Rahul Bhartiya, Kumar Vishwas and others paid obeisance at The Golden temple and the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar to disseminate their message.
Later in the day they went to Jalandhar and Phillaur as well.
Kejriwal said the purpose of the team members’ visit was to make people aware of the Janlokpal Bill and the viewpoint of other political parties on it. “The time is to vote very carefully understanding that who is that leader who will be truly working for people, in a strategic manner against corruption and will fully support Janlokpal Bill,” he said in his appeal.
Addressing her two public meetings in Gurdaspur and Samrala, Sonia spoke of the achievements of the UPA government in implementing schemes like MANREGA and JNNURM, and lambasted the Akali Dal-BJP alliance government for not adopting the two flagship schemes properly.
Talking about the Akali Dal’s charge of the Centre’s discrimination against Punjab, she said it had been the Congress which always kept Punjab on top priority. She said it was the Congress which hadbrought about the green revolution in the state.
However, she regretted that the Akali-BJP government had ensured all the progress was reversed and Punjab derailed during the last five years.
